Springfield, Virginia

"An established community,
not a pass-through!
"

Welcome Words from the President
Tawny Hammond

The Springfield community is rich in its diverse population, and is heralded as one of the first suburban communities in the early 1950s when residents of Washington, D.C., began migrating South to a slower pace of life.

2007 marks the 54th year since the inception of the Springfield Community. The purpose of the organization is to stimulate interest in, and to devise ways and means for, the promotion of the civic community and general welfare. The SCA is also non-sectarian.

The SCA is a diverse organization of residents who live in and/or own property in the central Springfield area. Boundaries are from I-95 west to Accotink Creek and from I-495 south to Old Keene Mill Road. The SCA works with community-based organizations such as business, religion, services, and Government, which includes police, fire, and schools, to improve the well-being, resiliency, vitality, and appearance of the community.

The Springfield Civic Association (SCA) relies on membership dues from citizens who live in this area. We understand that many people are very busy and cannot always participate actively in the SCA-organized events or meetings. When you pay your $15 dues annually, you will receive a newsletter five times a year. The newsletter, which is published bi-monthly, allows members to learn about what is going on in our neighborhoods and community. You can receive a printed copy in the mail or receive it electronically via e-mail, but the SCA needs funds to produce the newsletter as well as to plan and implement special workshops and events in the community.

Our low membership fee is a real value! How many other associations can provide this service with only $15 per year? Our low membership fee can be sustained only because of our dedicated and civic-minded volunteers. Please join the association and be part of making your community the best place to live. The citizens who live in a community must be part of the solution to make it safe, clean, healthy, and beautiful. In our fast-paced society with multiple priorities and competing needs, it is paramount that we know our neighbors and are connected to our neighborhoods.

Please help us make our neighborhood a safer and better place to live in. The "Membership Application" page on this Web site can tell you how to become a member or supporter of the Springfield Civic Association.

If you are a business entity located in Springfield, please make sure you visit the "Business Sponsorship" page on this Web site. Springfield has a large and diverse population. A healthy business community benefits everyone, and the SCA can help promote local businesses in the residential community.

Welcome to our Springfield Community! The SCA's board members and I look forward to working with you. Please join our civic organization and make our community a better area to live in!
